Understanding the alarm loop.

Anxiety is both psychological and physiological. The work isn't "calm down" — it's understanding what keeps the alarm going, and regaining flexibility.

Not for emergencies.

Do not use either website for emergencies. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 112 now or go to the nearest emergency department.

In Belgium, call Zelfmoordlijn 1813 in Dutch or the Centre de Prévention du Suicide on 0800 32 123 in French. Both are free, anonymous and available 24/7.

You can call simply because things feel bad and you want someone to talk to.

Is this you?

It often looks like this.

Worry runs constantly, and decisions feel heavier than they should.

Panic, restlessness or irritability arrive without clear warning.

You avoid certain things — or need reassurance before facing them.

Nothing you do ever feels quite good enough.

The body carries it: tension, digestive trouble, broken sleep.

Recognizing a few of these is not a diagnosis — it is a reason to look closer.

How I approach treatment

Three stages, taken in order.

First

Understanding the alarm loop

I map what keeps the alarm going: triggers, avoidance patterns and safety behaviors, sleep, caffeine and substance use, sensory load, and family, school or work pressures.

Then

Learning regulation

We may use psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness-based work, and breath and body practices. Regulation is not forced relaxation — it is learning to recognize signals, widen tolerance and regain flexibility.

From there

Stabilizing the life around it

We stabilize sleep and daily life, involve family or parents where useful, and consider medication when needed — inside a plan we continue to review together.

When a consultation may help

When worry, panic or avoidance persist, interfere with daily life, or keep tightening despite your best efforts, a careful psychiatric assessment can establish what is driving the loop and what kind of support fits.
